This lakeshore loop in spectacular County Sligo boasts island views, pretty woodlands and even works of art over its easy 3km.

Taking just 1 hour to complete, this flat, easy loop in the Hazelwood Demesne near Sligo Town is also buggy and wheelchair-friendly.

Starting from pretty Half Moon Bay, the terrain consists of multi-access path and forest track as it skirts the stunning shoreline of Lough Gill. Along the way you’ll spot a smattering of idyllic islands and drink in seriously stunning lake views.

On the return you’ll walk through the demesne’s 250 year old woodlands and find a number of fascinating wooden sculptures by renowned Irish and international artists.

In nearby Sligo Town, enjoy your pick of welcoming pubs, cafés and restaurants to relax in after this delightful loop.

The Hazelwood Forest is 5km outside Sligo Town, located at Half Moon Bay along the shores of Lough Gill. It is known locally for its beautiful forest trails, mature trees, quiet picnic areas and magnificent lakeside scenery.

Lough Gill

Lough Gill is a large lake, about 8 kilometres long and 2 kilometres wide. There is public access to the lough from a pier on the south shore at the mouth of the Garavogue River, at Inishfree Pier and at Shriff Bay.
