Take this easy 4.6km loop in resplendent County Roscommon and embrace woodland scenery, captivating castle views and beautiful lakeshores.

Starting and ending at Kilronan Castle car park, this charming loop near Ballyfarnon takes 70 minutes to complete.

Following forest roads, woodland and lakeside paths, the trail extends through lush Kilronan Forest and along the northern shore of Lough Meelagh. Its lake shore limit extends as far as Doon Point before returning along woodland tracks and the entrance avenue of Kilronan Castle, boasting a bounty of woodland and lakeshore scenery.

Although there are no difficult ascents, the route does include narrow elevated paths by the lake.

After your loop why not enjoy afternoon tea in Kilronan Castle or pop by one of Ballyfarnon or Keadue’s welcoming pubs for a bite to eat.
