Children will love exploring Kylemore’s tree lined avenues populated with many exotic as well as natives trees. Pick up a Tree Trail Brochure in the visitor centre and discover lots of interesting facts and information along the walk. Look out for the nature discovery panels that tell what birds and animals to look out for in the woodlands and along the lake shore.
No child’s visit to Kylemore would be complete without a visit to the Ironing Stone, a magical giant’s wishing stone located on our Eastern avenue. Turn to throw a stone over the top of the stone and a wish will certainly come through. Legend has it that this great hunk of granite was dropped here by two mischievous baby giants playing with their mother’s hot iron. Another version of the tale maintains that the hot iron was being tossed from two nearby mountains by the two great mythical Irish heroes Cuchulainn and Fionn Mc Cool and it was they who dropped it where it now sits today.
